Routes

UK container shipping routes

Every lane runs in both directions and each has its own page, because exporting and importing are different jobs with different customs, different paperwork and different ports. 80 routes across 6 regions.

The British ports we book through

Which one suits you is usually decided by where your cargo is, not by the ocean rate — the inland leg is where the avoidable cost sits.

FelixstoweGBFXT

Suffolk, East of England

Britain's largest container port and the default deep-sea gateway. Handles the widest range of direct services to Asia and the Middle East, which usually means fewer transshipments and a shorter door-to-door time on long-haul lanes.

SouthamptonGBSOU

Hampshire, South Coast

Deep-water terminal on the south coast with strong deep-sea coverage and quick motorway access to London, the South West and the Midlands. Our own office is in Southampton, so cargo routed here is the easiest for us to keep eyes on.

London GatewayGBLGP

Thurrock, Essex

The newest deep-water terminal on the Thames, closest of the major gateways to London and the South East. Shortest inland leg for cargo collecting from or delivering to the capital, which on a short lane can matter more than the sailing.

TilburyGBTIL

Essex, Thames Estuary

Long-established Thames port handling containers alongside breakbulk and roll-on/roll-off traffic. Useful where a consignment mixes containerised and non-containerised cargo on the same booking.

LiverpoolGBLIV

Merseyside, North West

The main west-coast gateway, with a deep-water terminal taking large vessels. Cuts a significant road leg for cargo originating in the North West, Yorkshire, Scotland or Ireland compared with routing through the south.

TeesportGBTEE

Redcar and Cleveland, North East

North East gateway serving Teesside industry and the surrounding region, handling containers alongside bulk and project cargo. The obvious choice for heavy or oversized consignments originating in the north.
